The C.E.O. & President – EXIM Bank, Mr. Irfan Bukhari, participated as a panelist in the “Ramping Up Exports” seminar organised by Humanex, in Karachi. The C.E.O. provided an overview of the creation of Export Credit Agencies (ECAs), their mandate and how EXIM Banks support local exporters in their aspirations to grow their exports.
Irfan also explained the bank’s plan to assist exporters enter new markets and how the bank plans to enhance the export mix of the country by supporting, for example, IT, Software, Engineering goods, etc. He also spoke about the international relationships the bank is creating with EXIMs of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Europe and Africa which will assist in opening up markets in Africa and C.I.S. He also briefly discussed the additional responsibility given to EXIM Bank by the G.o.P. to manage the subsidy payments on behalf of the Government to commercial banks (and onwards to Exporters) as the Export Financing Scheme is phased out by the S.B.P. to be financed by commercial banks under the new modalities.
